Babbel - Language Learning App Reviews

Reviewing my German from high school of some 30 years ago. The ability to review and improve is well connected.

I enjoy learning except the voice part or the listening part! I am deaf and it is impossible for me to listen and get to the next level! Sigh!

I like this app, but I was disappointed that it only offers two Asian languages: Turkish and Indonesian. As an American who lives in East Asia, I would like to see offered a wider variety of major Asian languages, such as Hindi, Malay, Japanese, Thai, Burmese, Bengali, Sinhala, Vietnamese, Korean, Lao, Khmer, and/or Hmong. My star rating is largely based on the lack of Asian languages offered.

I cant believe how much fun this app gives me learning a new language. I love the strategic & selective combination of writing & reading which really seems to pack a punch. Only thing i would expect a bit more of is pronunciation training which feels a bit lacking. It wont tell you what or how you said it wrong and how to make it better, just right and wrong.

So far Im liking it a lot. I am taking Spanish and decided to try German too. Yes I had to pay, but a lot of work goes into developing these apps! I like the nice brief lessons that incorporate listening, writing and speaking. So far so good.

Its an overall great app and I love it but the language selection isnt very wide, like I want to learn Japanese, but I cant without this app helping me (Im not good at english Im sorry, plus Im a little tired) if that makes sense ??

Please understand, Babbel is not just an app, but a cross-platform learning environment. The approach to language learning is beyond reproach, all of the elements are there in the appropriate measure at the appropriate time. It is a very forgiving and encouraging environment, but one that enforces understanding as you progress. I think it is glorious.

Very interactive and effective

I saw an add for this on tv and thought Id give it a go. I just finished the beginners trial in Russian. Ive been told Im good at accents, and I am but it kept singing incorrect as I pronounced certain words as best I could, only one word gave me the green light. On a positive note I do like the way this app functions, pretty easy and fun to use. I really would love to subscribe to this app, but from what I gather from other reviews is that there is still much room for improvement. I see great potential:)

This app is excellent. As a multimedia instructional designer I can say that this app seems to combine contextual learning, gamification, and personalize learning pathways to create a unique and engaging language-learning experience. I recommend this for anyone wishing to learn a new language or refresh prior knowledge.

Easy to use. Learning fast and using new language as I go through the lessons.

Its a good app and I love it but every time I use the microphone for that part of the lesson it tells me its wrong. Not sure if its my phone or something but its really annoying and after ten minutes on one freaking word, I stopped using the app altogether.

Only on Lesson 6 and already am loving it!

Love the conversational approach, the different exercises and the fact that the speakers are clear and concise. Two things I would like to see: 1) ability to scroll back to see/hear something I missed and 2) ability to pinch and expand. I have bad vision and quite often the font is tiny.

At the beginning I was excited because I thought I finally found what I needed to improve my German, then they will ask you to pay to continue. Such a waste of time.

Very difficult to unsubscribe. The account information site they mention to use does not have "unsubscibe" button ...They made it difficult to cancel. This feels like a scam to me. Very frustrating. I needed to go apple account to cancel.

I have a brain injury with continuing word finding problems and forgetfulness. Just four lessons in my Luminosity score has almost doubled in some areas. In daily life I am finding it easier to have normal conversations with people, in fact new people I have met have not even noticed! ( but I am a great actress coming from years of loss of some hearing lol) Exercising my brain each day is very important. Once I was a concert pianist at genius level intellectually and this has been difficult. Finally I feel some terra firma beneath my feet. Thank you, while not the most difficult it is enough to challenge moi. Some of the french I knew is in my brain somewhere I hope Babble will help make new pathways to it or reteach me. -An old slow learner , C

With ratings like this I expected more but no, the audio is terrible and they want you to entirely memorize. You can guess and go through the whole thing. No, just no.

I like this app because it goes beyond that of other apps and is still engaging.
